At the I.H. Asper School of Business, students learn to see business in a broader context: the people it affects, the communities it serves and the world it helps shape—and the world is taking notice.
The Asper School of Business’ nearly 90-year old Bachelor of Commerce program has been ranked as the 2nd best school in Canada for sustainable, inclusive business education by the publication Corporate Knights, in the Better World (BComm) division.
“The Asper School is honoured to receive this meaningful distinction,” said Acting Dean, Robert Biscontri. “Our commitment to nurturing sustainability values is embedded into our Asper’s strategic goal. We continue striving to create a better business culture through immersive learning opportunities and world-class instructors that get students to think beyond the bottom line.”

“The Asper School’s BComm program is one of the best in Canada at instilling a holistic purpose in tomorrow’s leaders and equipping them with the skills and values to build a more inclusive economy that benefits society and the natural world,” said Toby Heaps, CEO of Corporate Knights.
The first criteria of the ranking is based on core course content. For Asper, sustainability is embedded prominently across all course areas. Asper students enjoy required, innovative courses like Business and Society, Sustainable Finance, Sustainable Business, and Indigenous Peoples and Canadian Business.
The second major criteria of the ranking is the number of recent alumni working for sustainably impactful organizations. Asper students get incredible access to Manitoba’s tight-knit business community through experiential learning opportunities like co-op, case competition opportunities around the world, and networking opportunities such as IGNITE and VIBE.
Earning second place proves that Asper students are not just learning but creating change by applying sustainability-based decision-making in the real world.
New opportunities may stem from Asper’s partnerships with the Manitoba-based BizforClimate, Responsible Research in Business & Management (RRBM) and the Principles of Responsible Management Education with the United Nations.
By leveraging the power of business communities in Manitoba and the world, Asper has positioned itself to be on the front lines of sustainability policies, dialogue, and action.
The organization Positive Impact Rating for Business Schools recently awarded Asper a “4” rating (out of a possible 5), signifying that Asper has a positive impact culture with visible results and progress.
It’s clear that by keeping community in business, Asper’s Bachelor of Commerce graduates lead Manitoba, and the world, into a brighter business future.
The Asper School’s accreditation efforts, Positive Impact Rating progression, and research centres like the Chiu Centre for Business Serving Community, are all markers of Asper’s commitment to nurturing sustainability values.
