The partnership will be a fruitful one, promising future action on sustainable business practices in Manitoba.
As part of the Asper School of Business’ initiative to produce and promote research that matters, the school has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BizforClimate—an advocacy group leveraging the power of the Manitoba business community to improve sustainability practices, policy, dialogue, and action.
This strategic partnership is a key connection that will result in mutual support and promotion of climate action, sustainable business practices, and action towards achieving a net-zero economy.
“The Asper School of Business is not a traditional business school—in that we do not teach our students how to maximize profit at any cost,” said Dr. Bruno Silvestre, Dean of the Asper School.
Potential opportunities within the partnership include research and policy development, training, joint funding proposals, industry connections, and student engagement. BizforClimate also regularly holds webinars and awareness events open to the public.
Derek Earl, Founder & Chair of BizforClimate highlighted the industry connections of Asper School, of both alumni already in the industry, and the future leaders currently in school.
“[Young business students & graduates] are the ones shaping their companies, building their industries and shaping the economy of the future, so as much as we can have them on board with the understanding of key concepts like climate, and how that’s transforming approaches to business, economic development and sustainability—we would love to see that,” Earl said.
“I’m looking forward to increasing our school’s literacy in terms of climate change and sustainability,” said the Asper School’s first-ever Director of Sustainability, Minelle Silva.
This MoU has also been signed by over 260 Manitoban thought leaders such as the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, Johnston Group, and Assiniboine Credit Union.
