The University of Manitoba is pleased to announce the appointment of Anne Seymour as Vice-Provost (Libraries) and University Librarian, effective March 1, 2026 through February 28, 2031. In addition to this leadership role, Ms. Seymour will hold an appointment as a continuing Librarian within UM Libraries.

Ms. Seymour joins UM from Johns Hopkins University, where she served as Associate Dean and Director of the Welch Medical Library, overseeing library and information services for the schools of medicine, nursing, and public health, as well as the Johns Hopkins Health System. She also held faculty appointments across all three health science schools, including as Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine—Biomedical Informatics and Data Science Section. In addition, Ms. Seymour served as the interim Director of the Chesney Medical Archives.

Her previous experience includes leadership roles such as Associate Director of the Biomedical Library at the University of Pennsylvania and Assistant Director of the Biomedical Academic Computing Center at Georgetown University Medical Center’s library.

I am pleased to welcome Anne Seymour to the University of Manitoba. Her extensive experience and vision for library innovation will be a tremendous asset to our academic community.

Ms. Seymour holds a Master of Science in Information Science from Drexel University and an undergraduate degree in Fine Art at Brown University. Throughout her career in academic healthcare institutions, she has championed the delivery of quality, evidence-based information at the point of need, leveraging digital systems to support clinical care, research, and education.

Throughout her career, she has been active in local, national, and international academic organizations including the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL), Medical Library Association (MLA), International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), and Ivies Plus Libraries Confederation. She has also served on the National Library of Medicine’s Biomedical Informatics, Library, and Data Science (BILDS) grant review panel. 

I am honored to take on the role of Vice Provost (Libraries) and University Librarian. I look forward to collaborating with new colleagues within the libraries and across the university to enhance research, teaching, learning, and practice, ensuring that our libraries are vital hubs for discovery and knowledge.
