Reminder: Manage your OneDrive storage before Feb. 28, 2026

The deadline is coming up: All UM accounts must meet the new M365 storage quotas by February 28, 2026.

Thank you for your continuing efforts in meeting the new M365 data storage limits for students, faculty and staff.  As announced on August 27th, 2025, Microsoft has introduced institution-wide storage limits across Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams for all Microsoft 365 Education users. To align with these changes, the University of Manitoba is implementing new storage limits for students, faculty, and staff.

If you are currently close to, or over, the limit, you will have already received reminder emails. Please take action before the deadline.

New storage limits for students

As of Feb. 28, these are the storage limits for students:

  • Email – 50 GB limit
  • OneDrive – 25 GB limit
  • SharePoint/Teams – 50 GB limit

What This Means for You

If your email, OneDrive, or SharePoint/Teams storage exceeds the new limits, you will need to clean up your data before February 28, 2026. Accounts that remain over the quota after this date will experience limitations, including:

  • Being unable to send emails, and/or
  • Being unable to edit files stored in OneDrive or SharePoint (files will become Read Only)

If your OneDrive files are already in read-only mode, you can contact the IST Service Desk , for assistance while you work to reduce your storage.

Storage Notifications

Microsoft 365 apps—including OneDrive, Outlook, and SharePoint—will notify you when you reach 80% use or exceed your limit.

If you see these alerts, please review and clean up your files.
