Assistant Professor Jay Wang, with UM’s Robot Autonomy Lab, is building a “brain” for farm machinery. Wang is combining artificial intelligence with physics-based control systems to help robots learn, adapt and operate safely in unpredictable environments. His goal is to develop a technology that could make existing farm equipment fully autonomous and more productive, and that could one day be deployed in other sectors, including space exploration.
