When you sit down to chat with Selena Randall, the very first thing you notice is her remarkably calm, grounded personality. This composure serves her well during her busy full-time career at the University of Manitoba’s Bannatyne campus. However, once the workday ends, that same steady focus shifts to a completely different passion: helping dogs and their owners thrive through her venture, Insight Canine Behaviour Solutions.

Her journey into the wild world of dog psychology didn't start in a classroom; it started at home with a beautiful, chaotic Australian Shepherd named Dylan. When Dylan hit nine months old, he became incredibly reactive. Walks became stressful, and everyday environments felt like an obstacle course. Refusing to give up on her furry companion, Selena dove headfirst into understanding his triggers and studying canine behavior.

"I've seen results with my own dog, Dylan," Selena shares with a smile. "I just love working with him and seeing him face the world with more confidence. Seeing those actual results made me realize I could offer practical tools to truly change the lives of both dogs and their owners."

That is when she discovered the free, six-week virtual How to Start a Side Hustle course, offered by the Stu Clark Centre for Entrepreneurship (SCCE) at the I.H. Asper School of Business. Through weekly live workshops, Selena was guided through the exact steps she needed to overcome her obstacles. The course taught her the Side Hustle Portfolio System to balance her schedule, Customer Discovery strategies to find her target clients, and how to build a sustainable, safe business model.

Thanks to the program, Selena found the business confidence to launch her venture safely after her day job. She is currently working toward her official certification, but she’s already helping real clients see amazing results! Today, she meets with families completely online, providing a personalized roadmap right from their own living rooms so nobody has to worry about a stressful commute.

Selena knew how to read a dog's body language, but she hit a major roadblock: she had no idea how to actually build a business. She needed to figure out how to find paying clients, set up backend operations, and manage marketing—all while balancing the demanding schedule of her full-time university career.
