For Rachel Wheatley, CEO of Special Olympics Manitoba [MBA/14], the Asper MBA was the perfect roadmap for her leadership journey.

With the deep ties to the Winnipeg business community, the flexibility it offered while she balanced full-time work, and the network of diverse business professionals to study alongside, she felt set.

“You have to keep growing and learning and applying those lessons in order to build that confidence. The MBA gives you that opportunity,” she said.

Rachel’s story is just one of many highlighting the unforgettable path to leadership success you can find at the Stu Clark Graduate School.

Learning that fits your schedule

Asper‘s Professional Graduate Programs have options for weekday, evening and weekend classes, allowing students to maintain their professional careers while in school.

As a mother of two, the Asper MBA offered Jamie Theroux the flexibility she needed to be with her family and re-enter the work force with more credentials and advanced business and leadership education.

Applied Business Experiences

Along with opportunities for international study trips and global market simulations, Asper has an incredible business case competition culture where graduate students analyze complex, real-world problems and propose solutions to a panel of experts.

MBA student Riley Moskal brought all his classroom lessons together in the case competition program, which his teammate labelled an “academic escape room.” You’re given a case study with a set amount of time to brainstorm and present your solutions to a panel of C-suite judges.

“Out of everything in the MBA program, I probably took the most out of doing case competitions, because it allows you to work with teams, understand how to work with people, take unique perspectives and put everything together into one good idea. You don't get that in a regular lecture experience.”

Mentorship and networking opportunities

Asper’s professional graduate programs offer group and one-on-one mentorship. For Shivam Patel [MSCM/25], who now works as a buyer at NFI Parts, this helped him know exactly which part of his field he belonged, and where he could contribute his skills best.

“My mentor helped me understand what the day-to-day work of any job is.”

His studies also earned him an incredible worldwide network when he travelled to the MBA Games—a case competition which includes academic, sport, and other team challenges.

“Now if I go to any province in Canada, I have someone to call and go out for coffee with.”

With the help of the Asper MBA program, Kathleen Bluesky learned to speak from the heart and inspire people to believe in her vision. She’s now CEO of Treaty One Development Corporation, currently leading Canada’s largest urban reserve development.

In the MBA program, I was immersed in this environment where everybody asked questions and spoke up and gave their criticism in front of everyone. I loved it because it was an environment of truth and vulnerability.

Angela Okware is upgrading her career from operational finance to investment by preparing to write her Chartered Financial Advisor (CFA) exams at the Asper School.

The University of Manitoba has a good ranking, for one, and also the affiliation with the CFA Institute. For me, that was the deciding factor.
