Held every two years since 2002, the 13th biennial CPA Manitoba-Asper School of Business Accounting Conference brought together accounting researchers, North American academics, and members of Manitoba’s business community to unite and exchange ideas on emerging issues in accounting and their implications for business and society.

Under the theme “From Information to Impact: Accounting, Capital Markets, and Society,” the 2026 conference explored research on the social and economic impacts of accounting reporting and information, capital markets and corporate decision-making.

Dr. Robert Biscontri, Acting Dean at the Asper School, and member of the Department of Accounting and Finance, (wearing his CPA Manitoba pin) thanked the organization for their continued support.

“CPA Manitoba has been an incredible partner to the Asper School. From scholarships and awards to case competitions, hands-on learning and direct support for our students, their commitment makes a meaningful difference. We’re grateful for everything they do for our school and our students,” said Dr. Biscontri.

Impactful sessions

Sessions welcomed researchers and discussants from all around North America, giving attendees a broad overview of current issues from a diverse range of perspectives.

Topics ranged from corporate integrity and anti-corruption to workplace safety, the opioid epidemic and the growing influence of financial information on business decisions. Researchers also explored how employees, bond markets and global ownership structures can shape corporate disclosure, analyst behaviour and cross-border commercial relationships.

It was amazing to welcome researchers and practitioners from across Canada and the United States to the conference, and to make meaningful connections between academic research and accounting practice

Dr. Hung’s research—which aligns with the Asper School’s mission to nurture sustainability values in business education—examines how accounting standards, disclosure regulation, and corporate governance affect companies and their leaders’ decisions, with recent work extending these questions to sustainability and ESG reporting.
