Time to Celebrate: Spring Convocation 2026

Ceremonies for February and June UM graduands will be held from June 1-5, 2026.

This June, University of Manitoba students will once again cross the Convocation stage as family and friends cheer them on. UM will be awarding 4 honourary degrees over the course of these ceremonies. 

Spring Convocation 2026 ceremonies will be held in person, with live streams of each of the ceremonies available online. 

About Convocation

Ceremonies for February and June UM graduands will be held from June 1-5, 2026 at Fort Garry Campus.

Students from the Fort Garry and Bannatyne campuses will be part of the ceremonies at Fort Garry campus.

If you are a student and have declared your intent to graduate, you should have already received emails to your UM account with instructions on how to claim your academic attire and what to expect from this year's ceremonies. Honorary Degree Recipients

The honorary degree is the highest honour the University of Manitoba can confer to an individual for distinguished achievement in scholarship, the arts, or public service.

During the Spring 2026 Convocation ceremonies, UM will confer the following honorary degrees:

  • Barbara Bruce - Flies High Thunderbird and Truth Talker, Wolf Clan. Doctor of Laws, honoris causa
  • Guy Gavriel Kay - B.A. (Manitoba); LL.B. (Toronto). Doctor of Letters, honoris causa
  • Marcia Kran - B.A. (Manitoba); LL.B. (Manitoba); Dip. Social Science (Stockholm); MA (Toronto). Doctor of Laws honoris causa (Posthumously conferred)
  • Steven H. Kroft - B.A. (Manitoba), LL.B. (British Columbia). Doctor of Laws, honoris causa
