UM professor is leading the way in cardiovascular medicine research.
Dr. Shelley Zieroth, professor of cardiology in the Max Rady College of Medicine, has earned a place on the 2026 list of Canada’s 100 Most Powerful Women, recognized for her exceptional leadership, vision, determination, passion and dedication to supporting and mentoring others.
The prestigious annual list, compiled by the Women’s Executive Network (WXN), honours women making significant contributions across industries and career stages. Zieroth was recognized in the Professionals category that honours women who are distinguished practitioners and leaders within their professions and organizations.
“I’m honoured to be among the women named in this year’s WXN list,” says Zieroth. “Each of the award recipients has worked hard to make an impact in their field and I am happy to be part of such an esteemed group of change makers.”
Zieroth is an international leader in cardiovascular medicine specializing in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplant. As professor, clinician scientist, director of the Heart Failure and Heart Transplant Clinics, and head of the Medical Heart Failure Program for Cardiac Sciences Manitoba, Zieroth has influenced professional standards and clinical direction at every level.

As Governor of the American College of Cardiology's Canadian Prairie Provinces chapter, Dr. Zieroth plays a key role in shaping international cardiovascular priorities while ensuring Canadian perspectives are reflected in global discussions. She also co-chairs the Canadian Heart Function Alliance Sex and Gender Working Group, championing more inclusive and equitable models of care.
Zieroth was recently named as the Heart & Stroke, St. Boniface Hospital Foundation and Research Manitoba Chair in Women’s Clinical Heart Health Research. She is widely regarded as a consensus builder who brings together diverse stakeholders to advance meaningful change.
The award recipients will be honoured at a gala celebration in Toronto on November 26, 2026.
