Every philanthropic gift, regardless of size, plays a meaningful role in shaping the future of health care in Manitoba. Through support for students, research and innovative training opportunities, our donors are helping to prepare the next generation of health professionals and advancing excellence in patient care.
The Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry’s campaign to build new state-of-the-art dental clinics has inspired an extraordinary response from our community. To date, more than 160 donors, including alumni, faculty, staff, industry partners and friends of the college, have contributed to this transformational initiative. Their collective generosity is helping create modern learning environments that will enhance student education and patient care. The remarkable breadth of support reflects the deep pride our alumni have in their alma mater and further reinforces the dental college’s reputation as one of UM’s strongest communities of alumni engagement and philanthropic giving.
I am pleased to share the establishment of the Doctors Manitoba Student Bursary, a new endowed fund created in fall 2025 that reflects the commitment of Doctors Manitoba and its members to support medical learners.
Nearly $140,000 has already been raised, including a lead gift from Doctors Manitoba. The bursary will provide financial assistance to medical students in their third or final year of study who are experiencing financial hardship. By helping to address the economic and social barriers that can limit access to medical education, particularly for students from traditionally underrepresented groups, this fund will contribute to a more diverse and representative physician workforce for Manitoba.
We are also proud to recognize a significant investment in clinician-scientist training through the Winnipeg Rh Institute Foundation Physician-Scientists Fellowship in Maternal and Child Health. Established in December 2025 through a generous gift of $500,000, this endowed fellowship will support the Max Rady College of Medicine’s Clinician Investigator Program.
The fellowship will provide residents and fellows specializing in neonatology and maternal-fetal medicine with opportunities to pursue advanced research while completing their clinical training.
We are equally grateful for the generosity of David and Joanne Provinciano, whose gift of $250,000 will enhance educational opportunities within the Department of Family Medicine. The department trains family physicians, physician assistants, international medical graduates and medical learners who provide care in clinics, hospitals, personal care homes and community settings across Manitoba.
Their donation will expand access to training in point-of-care ultrasound and women’s health — two areas of growing importance in primary care today. Training learners in advanced skills and technologies prepares graduates to meet the evolving needs of patients throughout their lifespans.
Together, these initiatives reflect a shared commitment to removing barriers to learning, advancing innovation in oral and women’s health, and strengthening the capacity of our health system to serve Manitobans now and into the future.
